Question: Is this an appliance?
No this is not an appliance. Instead of a card it is in the form of a box to achieve higher reliability and freedom from buses.
Your PC connects to it through Ethernet.
Question: What if I need less than 16E1s (8 E1 logging)? Or more than 48 (24E1 log)s?
This is a high density product. The minimum size is 16 E1 (8E1 logging).
In case you need more than 48 E1s the 1U boxes can be stacked easily in a rack.
Starting Q3 2010 you can get a 64E1 (32E1 logger) box and Q4 2010 an STM-1 / logger box. At the excellent prices.
Question: Can it do a high-impedance tap? What about signalling?
Yes, you can connect it as high impedance so that your network still remains independant. You can do a -20dB logging of signalling links as per G.772.
The unit will decode MTP 2 and the rest is passed on to you.
(Or, you can also use it to terminate E1 lines if your Telco already gives you ready to tap calls on an E1)
Question: What are the other applications apart from IVR, logging?
- Abis (location based) applications.
- Billing applications
- Fraud detection (your software has to detect changes in calling patterns)
- Network Supervision (Monitoring capacity saturation on links)
- Welcome msg when roaming user is detected on signalling
You can also use it for normal IVRs if you wish to, due to ease of programming. Samples of programs are available.

The product was designed for use with Telcos and is used by several telcos. It has no moving parts, dual power supplies, dual power sources, very low heat production, freedom from hanging servers, protection from line failures and many other design features that prevent failures.

The units looks at the new E1 connected and suggests the likely parameters using heuristic intelligence. It is quite simple to use.
